Brewers Win! 5-3! Carlos Takes The Hill! PLUS: Tale of the Tape! PLUS: A Fanastic Musical Tribute!
Loyal Readers and Brewers Fans!
Another night.
Another nail-biter.
This time, it was a Brewers’ Winner!
Early MVP candidate Carlos Villaneuva looked great taking the mound for the start.
Villaneuva’s numbers: 6 Innings – 5 Hits – 1 ER – 1 BB – 6 K
Impressive.
With tonight’s win, Villaneuva is 7-3.
Also impressive.
And speaking of impressive, how about Ryan Braun?
Unreal.
The Brewers even manufactured a run – Braun bunted to lead off – Prince Fielder walked – Corey Hart sacrificed the runners over one base – Geoff Jenkins walked intentionally – And Johnny Estrada hit a ball ot shallow center field that proved to be an RBI sacrifice as Braun beat the throw home to score.
Wow.
You don’t see that every day at Miller Park.
The bullpen held and A Man Called Coco saved the game for his 40th save of the year, now becoming the Brewers all-time leader in saves.
Quite a night.
Indeed.
Tale Of The Tape
The Brewers played hard tonight, something they have been doing of late.
And when you play hard, good things happen.
On the down side, Rickie Weeks struggled mightily defensively and Bill Hall was no where to be found.
If you asked anyone in May if Bill Hall would be on the bench and JJ Hardy hitting 8th in September they wouldn’t have believed you.
But it’s true.
And more than that, so many of the Brewers players seem to be just "getting by" this late in the season.
I don’t know if it’s a matter of conditioning, injury, psychological make-up, or plain ol’ fatigue, but these guys look tired and the slightest bump in the road seems to cause them to veer off course.
As I wrote earlier, Ned Yost has gotten my votes of confidence all season and more importantly, seems to have gotten one yesterday from The Boss.
If I was in that dugout, or in the GM’s office, I would make sure that each and every one of these players was eating right, hydrated, in bed early, little or no alcohol, and doing everything possible to make sure that their mind, body, spirit was focused on winning.
But Ned is probably already doing that.
And that’s why he may yet be Manager of the Year.
Just Sayin’.
…
For tonight’s Fantastic Musical Tribute, I thought of doing something a little bit different.
Something fun.
Not too serious.
And hopefully, something you’ll really enjoy.
So, without further ado…
Your pal Yogi gives you…
Sha Na Na!
No Really.
OK, maybe that was a bad idea.
How’s this?
Brings Back Memories
Enjoy!
