Brewers Win! 4-3! A Rare Comeback! PLUS: Soups On! Finding a Way to Win! PLUS: Tale of the Tape! PLUS: A Fantastic Musical Tribute!

Loyal Readers and Brewers Fans!

What a difference a day makes.

How about them Brewers!

Wow.

Jeff Suppan, the $40 Million Man let up a 3-run homer in the second inning and I'm sure that Brewers fans everywhere figured, "Oh boy, here we go again."

But it didn't happen that way.

In fact, the Cincinnati Reds didn't score again.

Then in the fourth inning, the score still Reds 3-0, the Brewers had a chance to score a run with bases loaded and one out. Good 'Ol No.5, Geoff Jenkins proceeded to strike out swinging.

And again, Brewers fans everywhere thought, "We're gonna' get shut out."

But it didn't happen that way either.

So what did happen?

Jeff Suppan settled down and gave up a total of 3 hits in his 6 innings pitched.

Leaving aside Ray King, Scott Linebrink, The Most Exciting Man in Baseball, and A Man Called Coco were simply lights out.

Offensively, the Brewers manufactured a run in the fifth inning, sparked by Jeff Suppan who led off with a single, followed by a Rickie Weeks single and then a Gabe Gross sacrifice.

In the sixth it was who else?

43

Prince Fielder
hit his National League leading 43nd home run.

In the top of the eighth, Fielder walked, Bill Hall doubled, and Jenkins hit a sacrifice to right.

And then, in the top of nine, gutsy Craig Counsell singled for his second hit of the night and scored when Rickie Weeks got his second hit, a triple to the gap in right.

Rickie

Simply Amazing.

Really.

Tale of the Tape.

Last night your pal Yogi talked about the need for the Brewers to show their mettle and bounce back and find a way to win

Easier said than done.

The Brewers are not a team that often manufactures runs or comes back after being down.

What the Brewers are good at, and this might surprise you, is holding a lead.

I know, you think I'm crazy.

But the Brewers bullpen has 49 holds this season and leads the Major Leagues in this statistic.

After making one mistake, veteran Jeff Suppan got down to business and provided the leadership for which he was brought to this team.

Gabe Gross, Geoff Jenkins, Craig Counsell, all veterans, all found a way to get the job done tonight.

And give credit to Rickie Weeks, much maligned this year (and for good reason) he has turned his game around enough to help this team when they need him most.

And yes, Weeks' defense remains a mystery (or a disaster, take your pick.) But if he can get hits, and clutch hits, this team may yet still win this.

This may have been the best and biggest win of the second half of the season.

Clutch hitting (despite 9 LOB) and super-clutch pitching, got the Brewers a win when they needed it most.

Just sayin'.

...

For tonight's Fantastic Musical Tribute I thought I would give you something different, something jazzy, but definitely cool.

This one is so hot it's hard to believe.

Note, Donald Fagen on background vocals.

Also note, Skunk Baxter is playing the congas on this song.

Smokin'!

Enjoy!
